Here are many of the secrets from others for you all to use to get up that speed on the hill: 1) On metal runner sleds (ie. flyers), get the rust or paint off the runners by using a fine grade steel wool to get them very very smooth. They should be a shiny silver after sanding a while. 2) The main thing is to reduce friction anyways possible. a) Very smooth runners (as stated above). b) Long narrow runners (metal flyers). c) Light sled (plastic sleds). 3) Apply Bowling alley wax or a FAST downhill ski wax . A propane torch will help apply and work out the wax. If you can't get ski wax plain old parafin, like your grandma used on top of her strawberry jam, works just fine. 4) After the sled course gets broke in pretty good, pour some water down it and let it freeze. **Any that I missed, then please, feel free to chime in! My flexible flyer, is still in good shape, my dad passed it down to me, he says in order for it to go really fast, wax the runers AFTER sanding them down, this prevents rust bild-up.
