With snowfalls measuring 14 inches in Tulsa (and an amazing 21 inches in Owasso) some sled time is a must! After we tire of the short hill in our front yard, my family's first stop is usually Harwelden Mansion (at 22nd and Riverside Drive) to see how busy it is. Yesterday, we saw only two sledders on the perfect hill - but that was during the blizzard. This hill usually has sledders lined up to slide down the best parts - over man-made ramps, around the climb lane and straight down the open area so as not to hit the trees. Sledders look like ants scrambling up, zipping down and maneuvering around one another. Sometimes this hill gets so slick one needs to bail before slipping onto Riverside Drive.
We also check out the hill at 15th just east of Cincinnati, right by the fertility clinic (formerly Luby's). Usually the concrete drainage ditch at the bottom can cause problems for those who sled the farthest, but with this deep snow, I'm not sure we will find the ditch.
When other hills in our area get overrun, we head to the west side of the Arkansas River. A walk from the skate park is involved, but that area is beautiful with a nice view of Downtown Tulsa.
There are great spots all over town. With the snow this deep, you will probably want to stick close to home. Depending on what part of town in which you live, grab your sled and head to one of these other locations:
Zink Park at 31st and Rockford
Chandler Park, 6500 West 21st Street
The reservoir called Livingston Park by Kirk of the Hills Church on 61st between Yale and Harvard
North side of Woodland Hills Mall, 71st and Memorial
Bass Pro Shops, Broken Arrow, BA expressway and Elm Place (S. 161st East Ave)
Will Rogers High School, 3909 East 5th Place
Roy Clark Elementary, 3656 S. 103rd E. Ave. (41st and Mingo)
Salk Elementary School, 7625 East 58th.
McClure Park, 7th and Memorial

Share the best hill in your part of tTown. Unless you have a snowmobile or SUV, it will be hard to travel across town. Give your neighbors a hint as to the best place close to you.
You say Santa forgot to bring the sled this year? No worries - make your own sled!
